There is quite conclusive evidence of a gigantic underground megalithic structure below the necropolis of Hawara in Egypt.
These evidences are based on data provided by several radar sweeps in the area carried out by the Mataha Expedition, in coordination with the University of Ghent, Belgium, and other official organizations.
The so-called Labyrinth of Egypt has been cited by many writers and chroniclers of antiquity and is believed to be a monument of colossal dimensions and probably the key that would prove the existence of a civilization that preceded other ancient cultures of which there are vestiges in area.
Of all the authors who mentioned this labyrinth, it is worth noting Herodoto, who claimed to have seen with his own eyes this subterranean structure and whose description is simply amazing. Here we leave you with this interesting paragraph extracted from Fragments of Histories, book II, of Herodoto:
I have seen an incredible work. If someone put together the constructions of the Greeks and show all their work together, it would seem less in effort and expense compared to this labyrinth. Even the pyramids are greatly surpassed by this great work.
And although I speak of the lower chambers because of what I have heard from others, I myself have seen the superior ones and they all surpass the human task.
The Mysterious Underground Labyrinth of Hawara
Herodotus was referring to a two-story labyrinth. One that has giant roofs of stone and another underground. There have even been attempts to represent the labyrinth as it existed in the time of Herodotus. Among them are the designs of the Italian archaeologist Canina and a visual reconstruction made by Athanasius Kircher, an Egyptologist and German scholar, author of interesting works. These representations emphasize the two levels of the labyrinth:
But returning to the present, the expedition Mahata has shown the results of the radar that point out the underground presence of several cavities in the form of a grid under the sands of the Necropolis of Hawara. Here we show you an extract of one of the expedition results reports:
Under the surface of artificial stone appears, despite the effect somewhat distorted by the presence of groundwater, at a depth of between 8 and 12 meters, a gigantic grid-shaped structure made of a high-strength material as it could be granitic stone.
We speak of the presence of a colossal archaeological structure under the area of Petrie, which has to be considered as the roof of the still existing labyrinth.
But why is not it dug? It is the fact that six years have passed since this discovery. It is incredible to say it but it is very curious that Dr. Zahi Hawass forbade members of the Mataha expedition to publish any information about this finding until more information was available. But since it never went further in the investigation, the expedition has decided to publish these interesting data on its website.
Unfortunately, access to the Hawara pyramid is now flooded with groundwater and mud, which makes it likely that the labyrinth is also. In addition, a channel has been built in the area in such a way that the place has been divided into two sections.
Today we continue to ask ourselves if this finding is the definitive proof of a lost civilization or is another necropolis similar to Zoser’s, although larger. Whatever it is, it should have been investigated.
Shortly after the discovery, the Egyptian government through the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, completely suppressed the find and made any mention of it a National Security issue. What possible justification could their be to hide this site from the public unless its release so would draw into question accepted views of history.
